Repairing Cast Epoxy Intumescent
The very nature of the finished cast product Interact supplies means that it cannot be tampered with at all by the subcontractor—and that repair and refurbishment, over the lifetime of the building, is kept to an absolute minimum.
First of all, the castings will arrive on-site in perfect condition, having been quality checked for any imperfections. Maintaining the quality of the casting during transportation is achieved by protecting the outer surface with a cardboard tube. The same tube can be used to protect the column from damage during construction work.
The very properties of cast epoxy intumescent provide a product that is robust and durable. It does not even rely on a finishing coat to protect against water or chemical attack.
It is virtually vandal-proof and the top seal provides inherent anti-graffiti protection.
Damage can occur but this, by definition, is very limited—and mainly confined to minor chipping of the surface. It is never necessary to replace an entire section. Compare this to thin-film intumescent, when a single impact can require complete re-coating.
The original finish can easily be restored in no more that an hour with basic redecoration techniques (i.e. rolling and feathering). In the worse cases of chipping, an epoxy filler would need to be applied, then rubbed down and coated. Such repairs can be safely carried out without affecting the integrity of the fire protection.
The system’s easy maintenance over time means that the total cost of ownership works out to be extremely effective.
