The Gaiety comes to life
The Gaiety mixed use development opened it doors to retail customers in time for Christmas shopping. The project incorporates 139, 219, 273 and 406 diameter castings on the project. There are some 350 metres of columns receiving Interactive Column castings offering two hours fire protection throughout the structure.
The project is situated in the heart of Dublin next to the Gaiety Theatre and opposite the Stephens Green Shopping Centre.

The remaining floors which are allocated to offices and accommodation are still in construction. As usual with this type of project, delays due to climatic condition would impact on the schedule which would not be acceptable. The castings do not suffer from the same conditions as can be expected with thin film applications. Damage to off site coatings in the erection phase was another deciding factor. Repair of thin film is always a problem when high aesthetics are demanded. The casting can be installed in phases when suitable climate conditions are available for only a short time. As the casting are cured a simple method of rain protection is sufficient and provided the castings are installed above 5 degrees C, normal for wet applications, the casting itself will protect against any frost damage, ideal in winter conditions.

The architects A & D Wejchert and Partners of Dublin selected the casting for their high durability aesthetics and exceptional fire protection qualities. The architect’s team said it was delighted with the results and that the whole system met with their high standard of expectation.
