 Installation

Ensure the steel is prepared correctly before installing the system..

Check the primer coat is compatible with the epoxy materials.

Check the primer is in good condition throughout the area to be protected. Prepare any damaged surfaces and touch up with a suitable primer.

Check the casting size is correct for the column being treated

1 2

Run a saw down the heavily scored grooves—running down opposing sides of the casting.

Remove the outer liner

The inner liner must be cut in half

Ease the inner core out of the casting. There are small staples inside which will ease out of the cardboard. The staples should be turned over or cut off.

3

Where cleats and obstructions form part of the column, present the casting to the column and mark off for cutting. Do this before applying adhesive.

It is advisable to assemble the castings without adhesive first when detailing is required. Be sure to mark the casting sequentially before dismantling.

Strike a line on the column at 50, 150, 450, 550, 850 and 950 mm.

Using the 2 mm galvanised wire, tie off 6 bands to the markings.

Ensure that the tie-offs are all in a perpendicular line up the column.

The clamping bands are to be placed inside the three sets of tie wire.

5 6 4 7

Apply a 2 mm layer of adhesive evenly to the inside of the shell using a pointing trowel followed by a serrated tile trowel.

Present the coated pair of castings to the column ensuring they are positioned correctly.

Place the clamping straps at intervals corresponding to the tie wire around the column. This will ensure the casting stays central. DO NOT over tighten.

Using calipers check the casing is uniform throughout its length.

Present the second pair at 90° to the previously installed section.

There is an external tie wire assembly as well as the internal wire mentioned above.

8 9 10

Drill a 10 mm hole at each tie wire groove to take the tie off from the wire ends.

Secure the tensile wire around the casting. Tie off and turn into the column face

Do the same with the internal tie wires. The ends can go in the 5 mm space between the two casting shells.

11 12

Allow to cure for at least one week, subject to weather conditions (like all secondary coatings, the adhesive will be damaged by the ingress of water until it has cured).

Fill joints and minor blemishes with standard epoxy filler.

Rub down to the required finish.Touch up the primer coating to the correct specification.

Topseal to the correct specification and colour required.

Fill all gaps and grooves with epoxy intumescent adhesive.

After approximately 24 hours, remove excess adhesive using the decorator’s knife.
