GENERIC INSTALLATION DATA SHEET
1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Epoxy intumescent castings are designed for use as high decorative fire protection to circular hollow sections. The casting complies with fire ratings up to 180 minutes for cellulosic and hydrocarbon fire curves. Alternatively, the casting can be used for lower fire ratings that need to withstand harsh conditions not afforded by other forms of fire protection. Please refer to the generic material data sheets for mechanical properties.
2. WHERE IT IS USED
- On circular hollow sections where the aesthetics form an integral part of the building design
- Areas that are required to withstand harsh weather conditions
- Heavy industrial, defence and construction industries. Ideally suited for public areas to resist impact damage
- Uses include atriums, shopping malls, airport terminals, leisure complexes and office buildings.
3 METHOD OF SUPPLY
- All castings are manufactured and despatched under our quality control procedure
- The casting is supplied in two halves together with a protective outer liner for transportation
- The components are 1000 mm long
- The outer liner can be reused for easy on-site protection after installation.
- The minimum wall thickness delivered to site is 8.0 mm. Increases in this thickness will be subject to the fire rating and the steel size.
6. LIMITATIONS ON INSTALLATION CONDITIONS
- Installation temperature: minimum 5°C and 35°C maximum
- Installation Humidity 85%
- Due point 2 degrees minimum
- Castings should be installed as soon as possible
- Storage: between 2°C to 25°C for a maximum period of 6 months.
7. GENERAL OUTLINE METHOD OF FIXING
Fixing the casting half shells to the steel should be carried out by a recommended and trained installer who is FIRAS registered. Below is a brief explanation of the operations required:-
- Ensure the steel is prepared correctly before installing the system
- Check the primer coat is compatible with the epoxy materials
- Remove the inner and outer liners and present the half shell to the column to ensure the correct fit
- Cut out for cleats etc. as required
- Apply a 2 mm layer of adhesive evenly to the inside of the shell
- Present the coated casting to the column ensuring it is positioned correctly and in line with the corresponding section
- Fill gaps with epoxy intumescent adhesive
- Fill minor blemishes with standard epoxy filler
- Fill joints smoothly and rub down to the required finish
- Finish to the correct specification
- Topseal to the correct specification and colour required.
