About Us
Interact Fire Solutions specialises in offering relevant product innovation for passive fire protection and structural fire protection to the construction industry.
Interact works in partnership with architects and structural engineers during the design stages of a new building or refurbishment—and then with the contractors (and sub-contractors) providing them not only with technical assistance, but also with overall quality management as part of its standard product support.
It was set up in 2002 by Anthony Tiernan, bringing over 15 years experience in passive fire protection and structural fire protection expertise to form a company that has both ‘know how’ and a commitment to full service. An independent and privately owned operation, Interact's headquarters are located in the West Midlands.
In 2005 Interact set up their own manufacturing facility to produce their new unique meshless product that brings cast epoxy intumescent to a comparative price point with other more traditional methods of passive fire protection, such as thin-film intumescents.
Product Development
At the heart of Interact’s product development is its unique use and understanding of epoxy intumescent. The company’s flagship products are known as Interactive Columns. These are cast from moulds to provide a high-value medium for passive fire protection that far exceeds the specification and performance of normal thin-film intumescents.
The primary application for this form of cast epoxy intumescent is to fire protect steel circular hollow sections used to create feature columns in building environments like shopping malls, atriums and offices—and various other prestige developments.
When exposed to a high increase in temperature, the epoxy intumescent expands slowly and evenly to prevent the columns from collapsing under the stress of extreme heat. It does this by introducing sufficient thermal insulation to extend the time it takes for the steelwork to reach its critical failure temperature. In this way, Interactive Columns can provide up to 3 hours fire protection, while enjoying significant aesthetic and maintenance advantages over thin-film intumescents and other alternatives such as concrete-filled columns and secondary cladding.
The way Interact uses and casts epoxy intumescent is a premium solution that will fulfil any relevant passive fire protection stipulation. As such, the company’s products satisfy all the criteria laid down in Approved Document B of the UK Building Regulations 2000 (Fire Safety). This is considered to be the bible of fire protection requirements throughout the country.
In addition, the company’s cast epoxy products can keep intact the integrity of the fire protection system even under extreme duress.
